Fen Collection

Spongy underfoot, with wetland grasses and softly clattering reeds. Unexpected steps into wetness. Just visible causeways through the dark peat water. And careful where you go because there are frogs and snails and birds.

This will be a developing collection as I build my connection with my local fen – through walking it, drawing it, reading about it, and working to help restore it with the Little Ouse Headwaters Project.

Our wetlands are an important part of the solution to the climate emergency. They store carbon in the form of peat and act as a sponge for water helping to protect against flooding. They are also some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world.

I am captivated. By the colours and the shapes of the plants here. The way the water pools. The primordial sounds of the bird calls. The ever changing sky.
